J Mandelstam is a second year BFA student studying at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Their work is varied in both concept and medium, but is united by its bold and colorful yet gentle and intimate feel. In their work, J explores nostalgia, belonging, and love by reflecting on their own memories and frequently combining them with natural phenomena. J has contributed to multiple collaborative zines and projects, and tabled at events like Multiple Formats Art Book Fair. They are inspired by: visceral memories, the heat death of the universe, mysteries of the deep sea, and everyday intimacies like sitting in the sunlight and peeling grapefruit.
